My mission is to provide each client a bespoke approach supported by current, evidence-based praxis that allows us to celebrate explore our full vocal potential as independent, musical artists.

ABOUT MATT’S TEACHING

evidence-informed

My aim is to empower each student with the tools required to achieve vocal efficiency, flexibility, and sustainability. Informed by evidence-based pedagogy, my approach is underpinned by voice science to assist vocal function with an emphasis on cross-training, authentic stylism, and expression.

student-centered

In my studio, the unique needs and talents of each student are considered in guiding them through their vocal development. I work to develop student cognition through motor learning theory, scaffolding aural (what we hear), visual (what we see) and proprioceptive (what we sense inside ourselves) awareness. Beyond adjustments to vocal mechanism, this aims to foster student ownership of their unique vocal sound.

identity focused

Singing is uniquely intertwined with our individual identity, and as such requires a holistic approach. I work to build students’ critical and reflective skills, developing practice habits to support growth beyond the voice studio. Key goals are highlighted in both short and long term intervals, providing students with milestones to track improvement.  I strive for an inclusive environment which allows us to celebrate successes, overcome challenges and explore our full vocal potential as musical artists.
